French Fries, Alan E. Cober Prints, and talk of Marshall...

Ok. So I was going to post a revised version of the french Fries piece which I'm trying to clean up and submit to Illest of Ill (Ringling Illustration show), BUT for some reason whenever I try to upload it it comes out this crazy blue. WTF? Iv'e saved it as a JPEG and it comes out blue, and a TIFF wont even load. can anyone help me out? I'll post it as soon as i figure this out... anyway....

While the original looks fine on this blog, it looks REALLY dark otherwise sooooo I lightened the piece and played w some of the color and came up with some fun stuff. My Illustration professor Mr. Theil says I should put some texture behind it. I tried that and im not really digging it. Although I've thought about scanning in some paper with grease stains and seeing how that will turn out. Who Knows.

Also Theil took us to Selby Gallery today to see the Robert Andrew Parker show, which was delightful. Theil and the guy who runs the gallery got into a discussion about artists and how Theil's former teacher, Alan E. Cober's prints were so hard to find. The guy walked into the back producing some really nice pamphlets with prints of some of Cober's work. he was kind enough to give the pamphlets to those of us who wanted them. I plan on scanning in some of the images for the blog. It was a very sweet gesture.

ALSO... We were talking in Theil's class about visiting artists, and I asked how likely it would be to have Marshall Arisman come and visit. (apparently he has visited in the past) Theil said it was unlikely that it would happen this year but he would suggest it for next year. I plan on harassing everyone about this till it's a sure thing because I would kill to see him lecture about his work and process. Be sure to visit the link to him on Inspiration Sensation!

till next time..

Here is our first assignment "A Slice of Life in Sarasota" were we had to make an image with flat shapes and color. The point of this assignment was to focas on the importance of shape and value in picture making and not relying on line.
